The role:

The Hardware Engineering team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support sustainable and regenerative agriculture practices through techniques in computational agriculture. You will work on mechanical engineering development efforts, leveraging Mineral’s multidisciplinary innovation approach. You will contribute to the hardware platform to collect and classify relevant field data. 

How you will make an impact:

  • Design hardware from prototype to production 
  • Develop and fabricate reliable hardware components and assemblies in a wide variety of materials (polymers, metals, composites, etc.) 
  • Interface with contract manufacturers for fabrication, assembly, production, and DFM/DFA/DFX
  • Develop and troubleshoot hardware alongside cross-functional software, electrical engineering, and operations teams
  • Manage job queue, acquire material and tools, manage POs and vendors on tight deadlines
  • Drive testing, quality control, and integration of the hardware system to validate selection of product features
  • Develop and document hardware system and test fixtures that interface with agricultural machinery
  • Communicate methods and results to the broader team

What you should have:

  • BSc/MSc in mechanical engineering or similar field
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience
  • Proficiency with Solidworks for 3D mechanical engineering design & drawings; Solidworks Simulation and/or Ansys for FEA and Thermal Analysis
  • Proficiency with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and documenting hardware specifications
  • Proficiency in BOM management and document control 
  • Familiarity with reliability and test engineering
  • Self driven analytical problem solver
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills, and extreme attention to detail

It would be great if you also had these:

  • Experience with farming and agricultural equipment
  • Experience in a startup environment
  • Background in mechatronics, robotics, or controls
  • Familiarity with: MES systems and Agile PLM; Tooling and processes for volume production of hardware; LabView; Simulink; Electronic circuitry, schematics, and analysis
  • Familiarity with vibe testing protocols, waterproof testing protocols, and various types of seals
  • Proficiency in Matlab or Python scripting language for data processing
  • Proficiency with injection molding plastics and/or die-cast metals
  • Designed or integrated various types of sensors and actuators
  • Ability to do structural & thermal analysis hand calculations

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $114,000 - $175,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
