ABOUT THE ROLE

Vida Health is seeking an experienced and highly motivated General Counsel & Compliance SVP Leader to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our telehealth operations comply with all relevant state and federal laws, regulations, and industry standards as they pertain to healthcare and business operations. The General Counsel & Compliance SVP Leader is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company's compliance and regulatory programs, policies, and procedures to mitigate risk and uphold the highest standards of ethical and legal conduct. This position will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer, executive team, legal, and other key stakeholders to ensure that the company is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This position reports to Vida’s Chief Executive Officer.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Regulatory Compliance:

    • Stay abreast of evolving telehealth regulations, laws, and standards.
    • Interpret and communicate regulatory requirements to relevant stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Policy Development:

    • Develop and maintain comprehensive compliance and regulatory programs, policies and procedures.
    • Implement and communicate policies to employees, ensuring understanding and adherence.

Risk Management:

    • Conduct risk assessments to identify compliance vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions.
    • Develop and execute risk mitigation strategies.
    • Investigate and resolve compliance violations

Training and Education:

    • Provide training to employees on compliance matters.
    • Create awareness programs to foster a culture of compliance and ethical behavior.

Monitoring and Reporting:

    • Establish monitoring processes to track compliance with policies and regulations.
    • Prepare and submit regular reports to executive leadership on compliance status and initiatives.

Internal Investigations:

    • Lead internal investigations related to compliance matters.
    • Implement corrective actions and preventive measures based on investigation outcomes.

Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with legal, IT, operations, and other departments to ensure a holistic approach to compliance.
    • Act as a liaison between the company and regulatory authorities.

External Relationships:

    • Represent Vida to external stakeholders, including but not limited to potential customers, existing customers, and partners, to address compliance concerns and/or questions.
    • Complete RFI/RFP questions as they relate to compliance and/or legal issues. 

Management:

    • Lead the Compliance and Audit team and mentor its associates.
    • Responsible for day to day operations of the Compliance and Audit team.

Legal:

    • Negotiates, drafts, and reviews contracts and other legal documents, including merger, acquisition, and other corporate transaction documents, real estate leases, property and asset acquisitions, purchasing, joint ventures, managed care, physician services, licenses and other intellectual property agreements.
    • Performs legal and factual research necessary to draft and analyze various contracts, policies, and other documents and to advise internal clients.
    • Provides counsel on health care laws including those on privacy, Medicare, Medicaid and other government programs, fraud and abuse, physician self-referral and anti-kickback laws.
    • Provides guidance on billing, coding, and other reimbursement matters for compliance with government and commercial health plan requirements
    • Provides counsel for legal aspects of patient care with significant medico-legal dimensions, including informed consent, medical records/privacy issues, state and federal regulatory requirements, and patients' rights issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA-accredited U.S. Law School.
    • License in good standing to practice law.
    • Proven experience (10+ years) in a compliance or regulatory role within the healthcare or telehealth industry.
    • In-depth knowledge of state and federal telehealth regulations, HIPAA, ERISA, and other relevant healthcare laws.
    • Strong analytical, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
$230,000 - $360,000 a year
Base salary range noted above is based on regional location and individual experience.
