Location
This role will be located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area with a partial remote option. You must be legally authorized to work in the US.  Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.  
 
What will you do?
Bixal seeks a Deputy Director of Knowledge Management (KM) and Dissemination to support a 5-year multi-sectoral nutrition activity with the goal of advancing local ownership and leadership of high-quality nutrition programs and policies to address the underlying causes of malnutrition and improve the nutritional status of women and children globally. The role will provide expert technical leadership in knowledge management and learning to advance the project goals and implementation quality. They will support USAID in strengthening its capacity for knowledge management and dissemination, promoting knowledge sharing within USAID/Washington, USAID Missions and with other key stakeholders regarding USAID’s nutrition work.
 

Responsibilities:

    • Provide strategic leadership and strategic growth in knowledge management and learning to advance the project goals and implementation quality.  
    • Oversee the development and implementation of knowledge sharing strategies and frameworks for guiding and updating USAID and external audiences.  
    • Support USAID in utilizing innovative KM tools and methods.  
    • Support and oversee the development of knowledge products (e.g., learning briefs, newsletters, case studies, research findings and other technical products) and creation of data-driven visualizations (e.g., infographics, story maps) for internal and external audiences.  
    • Oversee the design, development, and management of up-to-date content and processes for use via USAID knowledge management platforms.   
    • Oversee creation and maintenance of interactive web-based features, dashboards, databases, and other KM systems as required. 
    • Monitor and evaluate knowledge management-related analytics.
    • Organize and facilitate webinars, workshops, conferences, or other learning events for sharing best practices and lessons learned within and across offices and potentially with external audiences.
    • Support development of learning agendas across and promote strategic collaboration, learning, and adaptive management (CLA) to help the client improve future knowledge management work.
    • Builds relationships with leading global and regional projects and agencies, including USAID/Washington, USAID Missions, other USG agencies, governments, NGOs, and private sector, to exchange knowledge on state-of-the-art approaches in development.
    • Oversee the strengthening of the capacity of local partners in knowledge sharing strategies.

Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Communications or related field.  
    • At least 10 years of knowledge management experience working on complex international development programs, preferably in the sectors of nutrition, food security and/or agriculture.
    • At least 5 years of knowledge management team lead experience.  
    • Experience working on USAID-funded projects in the sector of nutrition and/or food security.  
    • Expertise in developing and implementing a wide range of knowledge management activities, including knowledge products, website development, digital campaigns (e.g., e-newsletters, social media strategy, traditional media engagement, success stories) as well as written collateral and products.
    • Experience developing complex knowledge management systems in International Development contexts.
    • Familiarity with USAID’s Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Strategy 2014–2025.
    • Demonstrated experience in both strategic planning and adaptive management, including the USAID principles of collaboration, learning, and adapting. 
    • Experience with online and face-to-face approaches (e.g. workshops, webinars) to knowledge management and learning.
    • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills with evidence of ability to establish strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Proficient in web-based technology, social media, and digital strategy.  
    • Ability to work as part of a cross-cultural team with a high degree of sensitivity and cultural competence.
$118,000 - $140,000 a year
